Reasoning Under Uncertainty

Probability gives uncertainty a number. An event has a probability between 0 and 1; a distribution describes how likely every outcome is; conditional probability asks how likely something is once you know something else, which is the heart of Bayes' rule. Statistics runs probability backwards: from the data you observed to what probably produced it.
