$ Meta
$ names the support under a surface: storage, time, money, attention, or the trace of what just happened. The runtime calls it substrate; meta is its public alias.
Reach for it when you want the site to point at its own medium, not only at what the medium carries.
Contract
In hand
Inspect the medium or the trace. The encounter shows how the surface is behaving.
What it means
The mark is attention noticing its instrument. The trace is the account of what you just met.
Brace Physics
The brace folds back onto the instrument. The trace becomes readable, and the support stays in view.
Before and after
Prefix $x primes reflection on the next unit. Postfix x$ marks that the unit leaves a reflective trace.
