~ Reference

~ holds a path open. Following it is a later choice. The runtime calls it potential; reference is its public alias.

Contract

In hand

Resolve the path, or inspect it. An absent target still shows the literal path or the relation it meant. Following stays optional.

What it means

The mark is potential difference, the pull between here and elsewhere. Arrival leaves the thread in place.

Brace Physics

The brace stores the path as deferred charge. The target can remain elsewhere. The thread stays on this side of the boundary.

Before and after

Prefix ~x reads the next unit as relation. Postfix x~ marks the residue of unresolved relation after contact.
